Micro-puncture Technique Eliminates Surgical Incisions

Our use of the micro-puncture technique eliminates the post-operative pain of an incision. No blade is used. Our technique pierces the skin and inserts the laser fiber through one tiny puncture. As a result, the patient’s comfort level is maximized. Additionally, our technical success rate of 98% is largely a result of this technique, unique to The Vein Institute of Toronto™.

Klein Pump

Tumescent Anesthesia Gently Closes the Vein

Klein’s pump (which is also used during liposuction and plastic surgery) for delivery of tumescent anesthesia has allowed for one of the greatest advances in the treatment of vein disorders. To close the saphenous vein following EVLT, we deliver a low concentration of anesthetic in a high volume of fluid. The mild anesthetic reduces discomfort, and the high volume of fluid causes swelling that resembles the peel of an orange (the term tumescent refers to the swelling). The pressure from the volume of fluid compresses blood the target vein to be treated and greatly reduces bleeding and chance of recurrence. Our use of the Klein pump and tumescent anesthesia means that you have plenty of time to be home before the anesthetic effect wears off, and that you will experience minimal discomfort and bleeding.

Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) is also known as endovenous laser treatment (EVLT). The two terms are interchangeable and refer to the same treatment.
